For centuries, humans have used straw art to celebrate successful harvests. Farm families created astoundingly detailed hats, reticules, baskets and wall art from wheat, oat, rye and barley straw by braiding, plaiting and weaving it. Though straw weaving nearly went extinct in the 1970s, it has since experienced a revival, and we are proud to be able to use our own wheat for this brand new workshops.

On Saturday, November 23rd we will hold a Beginner Wheat Weaving Workshop, during which participants can learn the basic techniques of straw weaving and create their own small wreath, which can be used as a tree or candle ornament.

Cost is $20 for members; $25 for non-members. Ages 12 and older; limit 10 participants. No prior experience necessary.

This workshop will be held at the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation, rain or shine. Please use GPS address 3900 North Sandy Flash Drive, Newtown Square, PA 19073. Our staff will meet you in the parking lot and walk the group up to the workshop space.

Please let us know about any mobility concerns.
