Don't let winter blues get you down, come and learn all about indigo!  In the world of plant dye, blue is a hard color to obtain, and indigo is one of the prime sources.  Indigo has been used as a dye for thousands of years in spite of the fact that a complicated chemical process is required to get the blue pigment to adhere to fabrics.
In this class you will learn the basic chemistry behind indigo and you will learn to set up an indigo vat for dyeing.  Because the qualities of indigo lend themselves to techniques like tie-dye, shibori, batik, and wax resist you will be able to explore some of these techniques during the class to create a truly unique hand-dyed silk scarf.

This workshop will be held at the Plantation (GPS address 3900 North Sandy Flash Drive, Newtown Square, PA 19073). In the event of very cold weather it may be moved to the Ridley Creek State Park Mansion nearby.  Class fees are $35 ($30 for members) and you will go home with your very own silk scarf!  Class is limited to 12 participants and fees are non-refundable. Ages 12 and up.
